I have a secret for the most insanely delicious turkey taco meat ever!
I’ll get to that secret in a moment, but first let’s talk about tacos.
Who doesn’t love tacos?I mean, if you put anything in a tortilla I’m pretty sure I will eat it. But this turkey taco meat? It is so yummy and healthy, and seriously simple to make.
If you ask me, this turkey taco meat is one of the easiest, most flavorful and versatile recipes ever! You can be super traditional and use it as a filling in tortillas or taco shells but there are also so many other vehicles for this recipe. For instance, you can use it for taco salads, taco rice bowls (recipe coming soon!), burritos, nachos, straight out of the skillet on a fork…
Just me?
This turkey taco meat is also a great option for meal prepping. You can make a large batch and use it throughout the week, or freeze part of it and thaw and reheat it as needed.
See, like I said, extremely versatile!
While I love me some tacos, I have had some pretty yucky and watery taco meat before and it wasn’t pretty. Who wants watery taco meat? Ick!
So here’s my secret (actually, my dad’s secret) for the best and most richly flavored taco meat you’ll ever make (and I bet you already have this ingredient in your pantry)…
Tomato sauce!
Yep. Who woulda thunk it?
Instead of the water that most packets of taco seasoning call for, I add a cup of tomato sauce (plus a splash of water or chicken broth as needed).
In my opinion, the tomato sauce adds a great depth of flavor and takes away any possibility for watery taco meat.
I can’t even tell you how yummy it is!
This taco meat is perfect for those busy weeknights and it can even be made ahead of time and reheated when ready to eat. Does it get any more simple than that?
